Mystery and poetry in the beekeeper’s craft. Interview with Luca Bianchi Published from admin

L’intervista al giovane fabrianese Luca Bianchi, che ha fatto della sua passione per le api una chiave per il futuro.

Interview with young Luca Bianchi from Fabriano who turned his passion for bees into the key to the future.

We decided to discover the secrets that are hidden in the jars of golden honey that we use every day for our breakfasts and our snacks. They are: work and dedication in collaboration with the precious bees. To do so, we decided to interview a young beekeeper of our territory Luca Bianchi who has recently undertaken this work but who seems to us is pouring a lot of passion and enthusiasm into what he does.

How long has it been sine you discovered beekeeping?

Luca:

The passion for beekeeping began in 2014, in spring, thanks to a friend of mine, Marco, who introduced me and intrigued me when talking about this fantastic world that I had never been aware of. In 2016 I took over my grandmother’s farm and decided to focus on beekeeping and production.

Why did you choose this profession?

Luca:

I chose to live in contact with nature, with very important creatures and with a veil of mystery. This job makes me happy and it is the right combination of inner peace (when going to the apiary) and Public Relations (I maintain business contacts in person and I have the opportunity to meet many new people).
Profitable craft? It depends. Every year is a question mark but the main objective is to maintain the highest quality of every product we make.

Do you personally handle all the activities for the collection and production of products based on honey?

Luca:

Yes, I do. I follow the whole beekeeping process myself. We start at the end of winter with the first inspections of the colonies, then prepare them for the spring season (the first crops are made in spring); subsequently, honey is collected, but not only. Finally, they are arranged for the winter season, which the riskiest for the life of a bee colony.

What are the products you make? And the flagship product?

Luca:

The products I make are monofloral honeys (from Acacia, from Stachys), as well as multiflower honey. A new product that is taking more and more field is the pollen, sold both fresh and dried. Very special are the candies made with aromatized honey (with sesame, lemon and ginger flavours). Among the flagship products we have there is definitely the honey of Stachys, the “Ciaccarella”: a spreadable cream made from honey and dried fruit.

What are your goals? Do you have any new projects in the pipeline?

Luca:

At the moment my goal is to assert myself with products that are already sold but also to further increase the product range and the volume of production, given that unfortunately we are dealing with increasingly difficult and unproductive seasons.

Based on your experience … would you recommend taking this path in the Apiculture world?

Luca:

It depends. It depends on whether the person has a passion for beekeeping, for the animal world and the countryside in general. Surely I would advise against it for those who only see an economic gain in this sector because the sacrifices and disappointments are many.
On the other hand, if – as I said – we start from passion and the love for nature, I believe that beekeeping is one of the most complete and interesting sectors.

Where can we come to see you?

Luca:

My company is located in Argignano, a small village in the municipality of Fabriano. Precisely here, I have beehives and bee colonies, where I collect multiflower honey and pollen.
I am very happy to invite you to immerse yourself in the totally uncontaminated nature: in fact the land is all processed according to the organic methods and regulations. I would be very happy to show you where and how I work, to discover all the poetry that is hidden behind every jar of honey.
