Monte Catria Published from Redazione Best Of The Apps
Long and impervious, the Umbrian ridge of the Apennines extends north from Fossato di Vico and Monte Cucco to Monte Nerone. Right in the middle there is the massive Catria with its 1,702 meters of height. In winter, the stone colossus stands out even more because of its snow-covered peak that is visible from every place in Marche and Umbria. Monte Catria is characterized by narrow and impervious gorges enclosed by rugged calcareous walls. Walking through the paths you can feel a wild charm, given to it by the dark beech forests: these are the same paths travelled by San Romualdo and San Pier Damiani.
